Seven Steps to Improve Playing Speed

Flight101 SSD athletes are assessed on their individual needs and training sessions are then

designed around these basic steps to improve playing speed and overall sports performance:

Basic/Functional Strength Training

  • Strength, Power, Reaction, Agility and Power Training
  • Ballistics and Plyometrics
  • Balance and Core Strength
  • Sport Loading
  • Sprinting Form and Speed Endurance

  • Overspeed Training
  • Sports Speed Nutrition

Basic  Training or Functional Strength Training is an integrated system that trains all the elements of  performance required for competition. Fundamentally basic training is the root system that supports and sustains every play in any sport. Blazing speed, rapid acceleration and elevation changes, explosive lateral responsiveness, and lightning reaction and response are among the qualities that top athletes strive for. No matter the sport, lateral, linear, and vertical movement skills such as these are important to successful performance. Once thought to be generic, science has shown that these skills can be developed through Speed, Power, Reaction, Agility Quickness (SPRAQ) training.

Plyometrics and Sport Loading - Plyometrics refers to exercises that enable a muscle to reach maximal strength in as short a time as possible. Plyometric exercises are important in sports requiring high levels of speed and strength to complete movements like sprinting, jumping and throwing. Sport Loading is a technique designed to improve explosive concentric movements such as sprinting speed. For more on plyometrics and sport loading read or click on the graphic below
